Arkansas history
The name Arkansas comes from native American tribe Quapaws word ”akakaze” meaning ”land of downriver people” or the Sioux word ”Akakaze” meaning ”people of the south wind”.
I like that name, its very poetic and proud. Since I’m not American I didn’t know how many names that comes from indian words from the start?
The Territory of Arkansaw was organized on July 4, 1819. On June 15, 1836, the State of Arkansas was admitted to the Union as the 25th state. Arkansas has a violent but important history. Arkansas played a important role in aiding Texas in its war for independence from Mexico. It sent troops and materials to Texas to help fight in the war.
Arkansas also played a major part in the fight against racism with the case of Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka were the supreme court ruled that the segregation of black and white students was unconstitutional.
